You can teach an old dog new tricks

You can teach an old dog new tricks!
My father a retired plant manager occasionally used to take me to work with him on a Saturday morning. A short work day for him. I spent most of the time sat in a cab eating crisps and drinking pop. But I loved it. Watching all that was going on through the big truck window. Proud as my dad worked with his men on what looked to me just like big dumper trucks and diggers playing in lots of dirt and mud. I was not a tom boy at all but I loved watching and said to my dad when I get older I want to drive one of those big machines. Of course I never did. I suppose if I had been driven enough I could have.

But when we bought a house with a garden that was nothing but weeds brambles, piles of rubbish, rocks and piles of rotten old house beams.  Only superman could have moved it. Or my dad, as he is amazing. Dad was so bored at home so he jumped at the chance to get stuck in. My dad on the digger, me and my partner on the dumper and roller we made a start. I was very nervous and this machine you can see me on here was not very stable. But I progressed to a much bigger machine with lessons from my dad and this was better as it drove more like a car.

No matter what your age or what skills you think you have or don't have you can always learn more and achieve more.  With the will and drive you can do most things. You may not be an expert when you first try but just having a go feels good. I was no expert driving these machines and never would be but I did the job that needed doing at the time.  And feel proud I did it.

What has this got to do with art you say. People say to me they would love to paint but they cannot draw or they don't know how.

I would just say give it a go, what have you to lose. You dont have to share you work, but just creating can be so fulfilling. It a great way to relax and have fun. Art is in the eye of the beholder. A piece of art will be viewed differently by everyone, each person seeing a different thing, having different emotions. There are no wrongs or right about art its all valid and precious. Sharing your art can also be satisfying especially when it brings joy to others. Thats why I create.
There are lots of free sessions online with wonderful artists sharing their skills, give one of them a try. There are so many different ways to create, you can give a few a go until you find one you like.

You can teach an old dog new tricks, I am proof.
